Carbon Monoxide Detectors Required in NC Rental Properties |

Among others set to go into effect at the beginning of 2010, a new law in North Carolina requires landlords to install carbon monoxide detectors in certain rental properties. All rental properties that have an attached garage or use fossil fuels in the heating system or appliances must have a working detector on each level of the building.

H.R. 3548, the ''Worker, Homeownership, and Business Assistance Act of 2009,'' signed into law on Nov. 6 as P.L. 111-92 , extends and generally liberalizes the Code Sec. 36 first-time homebuyer tax credit, making it a much more flexible tax-saving tool. It also includes some crackdowns designed to prevent abuse of the credit. See ¶ 1 for details. Practitioners can use the following client letter to explain the revised homebuyer credit rules to their clients. It also can be modified and sent to business clients in the residential real estate business.
